The Trip of a Lifetime

Last month the 6th Grade (Top year of Primary school) at the San Filomena Primary School went on a school trip. That may not sound like a big deal, but it is out of the budget for most mining families.

Calling their class 'The Future Innovators', the children have already got wider career options than their parents due to the Fairtrade Premium being spent on developing the schools, technology & facilities.

Just like many 10 year olds in the UK, the 6th grade at San Filomena have been studying the Incas in school. With the historic sites of Cuzco and Machu Pichu less than a day's drive away, they dreamed of being able to visit and see it with their own eyes, and bring the stories to life.

So with a subsidy from Cred alongside some funding from the Fairtrade Premium payment, these Future Innovators were able to take a trip of a lifetime to their national treasure of Cuzco & the Machu Pichu.

They sent us this really lovely note:
"HOW ARE YOU?
I HOPE YOU ARE IN GOOD HEALTH AND THANKS FOR BEING OUR SPONSOR, WE ARE VERY PLEASED TO FULFILL OUR DREAM OF VISITING CUZCO TO EXPLORE IT AS WE ALWAYS HAVE WISHED.
LOOK AFTER YOURSELF ALAN AND THANKS AGAIN.
STUDENT: MARICIELO"
