“The Macdesa Collection”

CRED Jewellery

“The Macdesa Collection”

Made with 18ct Fairtrade yellow gold and lab-grown diamonds

Deep in the Andes Mountain region of southern Peru is a small-scale mining operation called “Macdesa”. They are a Fairtrade accredited cooperative group who produce gold to the highest environmental, social and commercial standards. Its location is just north of the Atacama Desert, the driest most inhospitable place on Earth.

Macdesa, Peru

In recognition of our close ties with this community, we have called our new collection “Macdesa” and named the rings after the women mineral sorters called “Pallaqueras”.

Cred Jewellery have had a relationship with the miners, visiting them often, since they were accredited three years ago. Last year, in collaboration with the CMJ, we facilitated the installation of a sewing machine workshop, so the Pallaqueras can have a secondary source of income, which will help to improve their standard of living.

The beautifully designed rings are made with the gold from their mine brought to the UK by CRED as Fairtrade gold. The mine’s gold is shipped to the UK in a bar of 82% gold. We refine it to 99.99%, then make the beautiful rings in the UK. These rings have a beautiful story using the best gold in the world.

At CRED Jewellery, we believe every person has the right to know that they have a choice which doesn’t have a negative impact on the environment or is part of any socially irresponsible practices. For us, the very best opportunity for this is launching our Macdesa Collection using lab-grown diamonds.

Lab-grown diamonds consist of actual carbon atoms that go through a process that mimics the natural method of diamond formation. Since they are made of the same material as natural diamonds, they exhibit the same optical and chemical properties, while representing an affordable, conscientious and modern choice that beautifully complements our Fairtrade gold.
